The Oak Bartek is the most famous tree in Poland and one of the biggest tourist attractions of the świętokrzyskie province. The famous oak tree is growing in the forest along the road between Zagnansk Bartków and Samsonów (Zagnańsk municipality).
Exact age of "Bartek" is unknown, it is believed that it may be between 700 and 1000 years old, and is considered one of the most ancient trees in Poland. It survived a lot of (among others - a fire) and has certainly saw many things - its history involves a lot of legends. Apparently many Polish kings, including Boleslaw Krzywousty, Casimir the Great and John III Sobieski, rested in the shade of this oak.
Dimensions of "Bartek" are:
- 30 meters in height,
- 40 m - span of branches
- 13.4 m - the circumference of the stem at the ground.
To cover the trunk of the oak you need as many as 10 people. At the old tree, his son - Little Bartek has been planted in 1966 on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the Polish State. So, when visiting this place, you can pick up acorns in autumn and try to plant a new Bartek in your own garden.
Due to its advanced age, "Bartek" was declared a natural monument and is protected.
