Boyen Fortress (Feste Boyen) is star-shaped fort, built by order of King Friedrich Wilhelm IV in the mid-nineteenth century, which was to protect the isthmus between the lakes Niegocin and Kisajno and thus protect access into the Prussian state.

Today, it functions as a museum with a number of special exhibitions and a permanent exhibition devoted to the history of the fortress. There is also the Society of Friends of the Fortress Boyen and a youth hostel.

Every year in summer in the amphitheater located in the fortress concerts and events such as  Giżycko Shanties are being organized.

It is one of the best preserved, nineteenth century objects of this type in Poland.
