Palazzio Santa Sofia popularly known as Ca 'd'Oro, is considered to be one of the most beautiful palaces in Venice.

Built between 1428-1430 (making it also one of the oldest) and designed by the architects Giovanni Bon and his son Bartolomeo, Marco d'Amedeo, Jean Cherlier and the sculptor Matteo Raverti for the influential Contarin family.

Its characteristic feature is the impressive Gothic facade, which was originally adorned by items made of gold.

Since 1927, the interior of the palace hosts the art museum Galleria Giorgio Franchett with temporary exhibitions. On the ground floor, on an open patio you can see interesting floor mosaics and sculptures. To be able to take a closer look at the architecture of Ca 'd'Oro you should get one of the famous Venetian gondolas that pass below the windows of the palace.
