The gondola lift at the Technical University of Wroclaw called "Polinka" is the only Polish city lift shuttling across the river.
It combines the borders of the Oder, and more specifically the campus of the University of Technology (Building C-13, at Wybrzeże Wyspiańskiego) with the Geocentrum in Na Grobli street.
The wagons run in a swing. Till the end of 2013, it can be used for free. Then it will change - students and University of Technology will be able to use the cable lift by showing an identity proof, while other passengers will have to show a valid URBANCARD or pay the equivalent of a public transport ticket.
The gondola train shortens the route immensely - till now the route across the Grunwaldzki bridge on foot took over 20 minutes. Currently it takes about two minutes.
Those who already used "Polinka" say that the experience of this trip is fantastic, since you can enjoy the view from the gondola of the Oder, Grunwaldzki Bridge and even the Cathedral Island (Ostrow Tumski).
Good to know:
- the trolley can take up to 15 people ,
- the car does not need to be filled to take off to the other side,
- the transfer from one bank of the river to the other takes 2-3 minutes (depending on weather)
- at wind speeds above 15 m/s , the lift stops and returns to the base.
