Chillon Castle is the most famous castle of Switzerland. Also famous because of Byron's poem "Prisoner of Chillon". Crowds of tourists are watching Lord Byron's signature scratched by him on one of the columns in the basement.

To explore the castle it's advisable to come by a regular vessel on Lake Geneva. The castle tower are probably most impressive when viewed from water. The tour takes about 2 hours - at the cash desk you can receive a printer guide and proceed in accordance to the map to all areas - from the underground prisons, through the prince's chamber to the defense towers and cloisters.

The castle is perhaps not too extensive, but it shows well how medieval fortifications built in key locations looked like.
