The Botanical Garden in Lodz, located in the Polesie district, is one of the the largest in Poland (with an area over 67 hectares).
The garden is a forest park - it has been divided into nine thematic sections: an arboretum, a Japanese garden, flora of Poland, Department of medicinal and industrial plants, park green, herbaceous plant systematics, plant biology, department of collections of ornamental plants and rock garden. Presented here are both native species of flora as well as plants of foreign origin. The most interesting collections include the collection of medicinal plants, lilacs, decorative apple trees, collection of daylilies and especially liked by the public collection of tulips.
The landscape is diversified into 12 artificially built up hills lined in granite, limestone and sandstone rock blocks. The highest are in the rock gardeb, and the others in a Japanese garden, arboretum and the section of the Polish flora. A very important part of the landscape is water - in the garden there are 18 water reservoirs, the main having an area of about 0.5 ha.
In the garden there is also a Palm House, and inside halls of sclerophyllous vegetation, subtropical and equatorial vegetation and desert and semi-desert vegetation.
A very diverse group of exotic plants is represented here by orchids, flowers, which delight with wonderful colors and fantastic shapes. The variety of plant colors and the amount of intresting spots to visit make the garden an interesting attraction for children, not only because a playground has been located here.
