The Miedzyrzecz Fortified Region briefly called MRU (or in German: Ostwall, Festungsfront im Oder-Warthe Bogen) is an attraction mainly for boys - big and small, but the girls who like "male fun" will definitely like a visit to the underground tunnels as well.
MRU is a system of fortifications created by the Germans during the years 1934-1944 for the protection of the eastern border is in the arc of the Oder and Warta rivers. On a distance of about 100 kilometers 106 bunkers were built, of which 21 are connected by a common network of underground tunnels with a total length of over 30 kilometers and a depth of 40 meters.
Journey into the narrow underground passages is very exciting - especially for children. While walking on the demarcated hiking trail with a flashlight in hand, we will see the concrete bunkers, interconnected canals, locks and dams. Given the horror of the place - only for the brave!
On the property military equipment from World War II has been stored - so you can see from a close distance: tanks, cannons or armored vehicles.
Visitors have the ability to choose from several hiking trails of varying length (duration: 1,5 to 2,5 hours.)
short route - up to 1,5 hours
long route - up to 25 hours
Panzerwerk 717 - about 1 hour
Additional attractions are bats, there are about 30 thousand here of 12 species - they include vampires, spectral bats and Indian flying foxes.
- you need to overcome a total of 300 stairs (up - down), you might want to make sure that children will be able to cope with it;
- be sure to bring warm clothing (including caps), comfortable and waterproof shoes and flashlight with extra batteries;
- tour takes place only with a guide;
- You can use the toilet before entering the underworld, or after it, so try to do these things before...
