Solina Dam is a nice place for walking, water sports and fishing.
From the main road leading to the dam there is a promenade with souvernir stalls where you can buy gifts or get something to eat. Unfortunately, this is a high risk for portfolios of parents, because there is a lot of temptation here. Children stop literally at every booth, and in addition next to the entrance to the promenade there is a rope park... Nevertheless this is a place that it is necessary to visit, as the views of the dam are truly amazing. On the one hand you can see the San valley overgrown with trees, on the other the Solina lake.
Here you can rent a boat, pedalo, board or sailboat or take a cruise.
A large attraction, especially for boys, will be the ability to visit the dam and power plant from the inside. This tour leads through the power production hall, a hall and a gallery of machines and galleries 1 and 2. In Gallery 1 we get five feet below the bottom of Lake Solina. In this place you can learn the basics of of the construction, the installation of the instrumentation and methods for sealing the barrier substrate.
In the second gallery, you can see another interesting facts about the dam, which is one of the 28 slots between the highest dam sections of the so-called "savings grout"
Huge turbines of the Solina dam are really impressive as well.
Good to know:
if you want to explore the dam from inside, it's best to report by the phone first or in person at the Information Centre for Renewable Energy, located in front of the main gate of the power plant.
