SOOS National Nature Reserve is located 6 km north-east of Františkovy Lázně. The reserve was created in 1964 and covers an area of approximately 221 hectares.
A part of the reserve has been made available to the public - along the nature trail with a length of about 1.2 km. The reserve protects an extensive peat bogs and swamps with about 200 mineral springs and numerous mofettes exhaling carbon dioxide (from below the ground through the mud sources are breaking through to the surface, forming the so-called mud volcanoes in other places carbondioxide is getting to the surface).
Educational trail leads along the dried-up lake, which used to be salty. At the reserve can meet many protected animals and plants of wetlands and halophytes (plants adapted to life in a highly saline ground).Adress:
