Pinacoteca del Castello is located at the Castello Sforzesco in Milan. The Pinakothek beginnings date back to 1863, when a private donor donated to the Municipality of Milan a large art collection. This prompted the authorities to set up a public museum, which originally was called the Museo all'Arte e all'industria. It was decided that the best place for this type of activity will be the Castello Sforza, which was an ideal place after its reconstruction.

The museum for the whole period of its existence, gathers and presents collections of Italian paintings from XIV-XVIII centuries, including works by, among others: Filippo Lippi, Luini Bernardo, Vincenzo Foppa, Andrea Montegna, Marco d'Oggiono, Giovanni Antonio Canal called Canaletto, and many others.
